We have just about recovered from the whirlwind that was the McGL feis 2017 – here are some highlights!
Thank you to everyone who attended, making the competitions a truly global affair, and an amazing pleasure to watch. There were…
- 1000 dancers, representing…
- 75 dance schools, representing…
- 10 countries!
We want to thank each and every McGL parent and dancer who gave freely of their time (and all of their energy) to help run the event. Running such a big event would not be possible without you. It really is a pleasure to work alongside such a lovely bunch of people from dawn until dusk!
Social Media Madness
This year saw the addition of two new social media areas to enjoy (some of us might have enjoyed it a little too much!)
Not forgetting what it’s all about!
We wanted to share these priceless reactions from our two preliminary championship winners, Robert and Nicole. Their faces say it all!
Alongside working behind the scenes all weekend, McGL dancers also managed to scoop up 6 open championship titles:
- Ellie-Kate McCarthy – U11 girls
- Ashton Canty – U11 boys
- Liam Costello – U15 boys
- Gavina Zuccharello – U18 ladies
- Lily Taylor – U21 ladies
- Niall Forrest – Senior men
Well done everyone!
Looking forward to next year!
Our new backdrops banners and podium have arrived and our awards are ready to be won!
We can’t wait to see you all there!
Here is our final timetable for next weekend. Please click the following link for a downloadable version: McGL Open Feis 2017 final timetable (Rev A).
Please note this shows an update made 21/03/17 (Rev A). All changes from the provisional timetable are shown in red.
The Registered Teachers of Mainland Europe (RTME) association has featured our very own Leanne Gray in their “teacher of the week” post. Leanne regularly travels to Warsaw and Prague to teach, and this year saw 11 solo dancers and a senior ceili team qualify for the World Championships. We are very proud of Leanne and all the time and energy she puts into her overseas dancers. You can read the full write-up here.
The Southern England region has seen some great and well-attended feiseanna this year and finally ours is the next one! We hope to issue our final timetable by the end of this week. This will take account of all the entries received to date, plus a realistic estimate of entries taken on the day, based on attendance at the last few events in the region.
We appreciate it’s been an extremely busy few weeks; however, it would really help us be as accurate as possible in our timetable if you could send your entry ASAP.
Many thanks, and have a fantastic St. Patrick’s Weekend!
Come and compete with dancers from all corners of the globe!
With only just over a week to go before the closing date we are pleased to see entries coming in on a daily basis!
Particularly amazing are entries we are receiving from all corners of the globe. So far we’ve had dancers enter from as far afield as Canada, United States and Australia. Continental Europe is also well represented with dancers from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, and Poland. We’ve also dancers from all 4 Provinces in Ireland as well as our friends North of the border in Scotland. Where else can we add to the map?
It’s looking like it’s going to be a truly international event, and a great weekend of dancing.
So don’t delay, and please get your entry in as soon as you can. This will allow us to refine the timetable, minimizing delays caused by receiving large entries on the day.
